More than 30 years ago, founder Jorge L. Prieto began enhancing architecture with innovative landscape work—creating resort-style outdoor spaces designed to be enjoyed both day and night. The mission was simple yet powerful: bring the backyard to life.
The passion for lighting began with our very first installation, a turning point in redefining outdoor living. At the time, technology was limited—low-voltage systems lacked efficiency, so we used Greenlee MDB 120-volt mercury vapor uplights to illuminate towering palms, reaching 45-foot canopies. That project remains unforgettable and marked the beginning of a new era in our journey. Soon after, we began experimenting with downlights placed 100 feet high in majestic trees, casting dramatic moonlight effects across the landscape.
One project at a time, we gained expertise by collaborating with landscape architects, electrical engineers, and attending industry conferences. We experimented with MV and MH HID lamps, halogen green Hubbell bullets, and accent MR16 bulbs with louvers and filters—learning how light interacts with different plants, textures, and colors.
Today, the industry has advanced tremendously, and so has Lightscapes & Koncepto Urbano. With LED MR16 optics, custom color temperatures, high output fixtures, dimming capabilities, and smart controls, we can design and manage lighting directly from the palm of your hand.
Yet our mission remains the same: to enhance architecture with innovative landscape lighting, creating a resort look and feel that makes you want to live in your outdoor space.
