Lightscapes founder Jorge L. Prieto started 25 years ago, enhancing architecture with excellent landscape work, creating a resort look and feel that will make you want to stay home and enjoy your outdoor space. The idea was to enjoy the garden day and night by bringing the backyard to life. The passion behind our work took a new level once we installed our first lighting job. At the time, low-voltage was limited in terms of high-efficiency bulbs. We used Greenlee MDB 120-volt mercury vapor-up lights to light up giant palms and reach a 45 ft canopy. Our first lighting project was a moment I will never forget and a turning point in creating innovative landscape lighting solutions. On another job, we started using downlights 100 ft high inside the canopy of majestic trees, creating dramatic moonlight effects on the landscape below.
At that point, one light at a time, we learned from conferences, landscape architects, and electrical engineers who help paved the knowledge required to enter the ranks of landscape lighting. I took a journey into applying light to the different backgrounds and plant colors by using MV and MH HID lamps, halogen green Hubbell bullets, and accent halogen mr16 bulbs with louvers and filters. After all these years, lighting, as well as control systems, have come a long way. We can now use specific led mr16 optics, color temperature, high output, and dimming, plus control the design from the palm of your hand! We can master our lighting techniques with the flexibility, expandability, and safety of low voltage systems by Lightscapes while still striving for the same goal: enhancing architecture with innovative landscape lighting work, creating a resort look and feel that will make you want to become a part of your outdoor space!
